Greetings fellow hunters.

I live in Arizona and was hoping to move your way in spring, but I am unfamiliar with the area so wondered if anyone had any advice of reasonably priced communities in the area. I want to be as close to the "action" as possible. Is Pecos close? I am use to driving 2 hours to hunt.. I just want to be as involved as possible (exercising hounds etc.) If anyone knows of a possible rental or house for sale i a good area. I am "retired" (work from home) and do not need to commute.

Any advice would be helpful. I am currently seeing out the last few days with a beloved cur who has bone cancer.. but it is my hope to make it out this winter and join you.

Regards,

Darlene.

  • Thank you so much Becky. This is very helpful.

  • Hey Darlene! Pecos is a bit far away, and the road could be a bit dicey if we get the El Niño winter we've been promised. If you want seclusion, though, it's lovely. Most of our hunt territory is east of Rt 599, from Old Airport Rd north to the Buckman territory, so the most central location would be off of 599 (the Santa Fe bypass road). However, that might be pricey, and I'm not sure what your budget holds. If money is an issue (like it is for most of us!), you could also look for something along Rt 14, south of 599. El Dorado is a little farther away, but charming--we have a few members who live in that area. I live in Albuquerque, though, so don't know the area as well as other members do. Hope this gives you a place to start!
